David Morgan, who takes over as the ICC president at next week's annual conference in Dubai, has said he is pleased that the international community is taking action over the situation in Zimbabwe.

Morgan revealed in an interview on Sky Sports that he had met with Ray Mali, the outgoing president, at Lord's on Monday and Mali had already decided that action needed to be taken over Zimbabwe. As a result, the pair agreed that Zimbabwe's future would be included on the agenda of the chief executive's meeting next Wednesday. Within hours, Cricket South Africa suspended its bilateral agreements with Zimbabwe.

Morgan warned that it was a far from done deal that any action would be taken against Zimbabwe, pointing out that when the issue was discussed a year ago, the majority of board heads voiced the opinion that sport and politics should not mix.

He explained that South Africa's decision was significant because their board had always been Zimbabwe's staunchest supporter, but warned: "It will be a very difficult discussion. India and Zimbabwe are close and India's position is crucial in all this, for sure." Seven of the ten Full Members need to agree to take action.

Referring to the ECB's decision to cancel next year's tour by Zimbabwe, Morgan said that he had seen the letter from the British government and that he believed it contained "the right wording to be acceptable for non-compliance within the Future Tours Programme, and that must be welcome news".
