Profile

Malachi Jones, a right-hand batsman who bowls medium fast, may still be in his teens but he's already played at cricket's grandest spectacle - the World Cup. Jones was only 17 when he took part in the 2007 World Cup and although he played only one match - against India - he made an instant impact, dismissing Robin Uthappa with his first ball. He has an excellent temperament and captained his club team to domestic honours in the 2006 Premier Two-Day League. Throughout 2006, Jones impressed mainly with the bat but in the latter part of the year his bowling improved to such an extent that he had every chance of playing as a bowler in the national side. He won the best young player award at the end of Bermuda's domestic season while his father, Olin, collected the award for best player. Jones made his one-day debut against Kenya in November 2006 but now has a chance to compete against opposition from his age group during the Under-19 World Cup in 2008.
