Bandara spins Gloucestershire to win

July 22, 2005

Gloucestershire 232 & 330 for 5 dec (Gidman 100*, Weston 63) beat Bangladesh A 251 & 181 (Bandara 5-45, Fisher 3-33) by 130 runs
Scorecard

Gloucestershire completed a 130-run win over Bangladesh A after Malinga Bandara and Ian Fisher spun them out on the final afternoon. Set a target of 312, Bangladesh never threatened to get close once Tushar Imran and Nazimuddin had been dismissed in quick succession by Bandara.

Alex Gidman had cashed in against the Bangladesh bowling to set up Gloucestershire's declaration, scoring a century from 94 balls. He added 119 with Stephen Snell, who followed up his first innings 83 with another feisty innings of 42.

The Bangladesh openers managed the make a steady start, although there was never the sense that they realistically held hopes of reaching the target. Shahriar Nafees, the captain, and Mushfiqur Rahman, who had been promoted to open in place of Nafees Iqbal, posted 36 before William Rudge removed them both.

Tushar and Nazimuddin compiled a solid stand of 55 but then Bandara found his rhythm and surged through the middle order. Nafees and Mushfiqur Rahim momentarily halted the slide but Bandara struck his fourth blow before Ian Fisher chipped in to help remove the tail.

This is Bangladesh's second defeat of their tour, following their opening loss to the British Universities team on Monday. They will have to pick themselves up quickly as their next game is a one-day outing against Hampshire, at the Rose Bowl, on Sunday.
