Cameron White has been cleared of serious damage to his jaw and will lead Victoria in their Twenty20 Big Bash matches against South Australia and Western Australia in the coming week. White was struck during Saturday's win over New South Wales when a Moises Henriques bouncer caught him under the grille of his helmet.
X-rays have confirmed that White's jaw was not broken and his only concerns were swelling and bruising. The Bushrangers have named White to lead a 14-man squad for Thursday's game against South Australia and Sunday's match against Western Australia at the WACA.
Rob Quiney has been dropped, while Aiden Blizzard, Jon Holland and Clint McKay have joined the group. South Australia have selected an unchanged 12 but the Warriors still have some concerns, with their star import Chris Gayle still struggling with a side strain.
Western Australia face New South Wales at the WACA on Tuesday and Gayle was no certainty to take part, having hurt a muscle in his left side during last week's game against South Australia. Scans have cleared Gayle of serious damage but he is not keen to take any risks ahead of West Indies' one-day series in Australia in February.
"It feels a bit better to be honest but there's still discomfort," Gayle told AAP. "I'll have a hit in the nets and then I can take it from there. It's a 50-50 chance [for Tuesday's match]. [I] want to fulfil my obligation to WA but, like I said, there's West Indies cricket to play as well, so you don't want to do too much damage as a player."
Victoria squad Brad Hodge, Matthew Wade (wk), Cameron White (capt), David Hussey, Aiden Blizzard, Dwayne Bravo, Aaron Finch, Andrew McDonald, Glenn Maxwell, John Hastings, Clint McKay, James Pattinson, Jon Holland, Dirk Nannes.
South Australia squad Graham Manou (capt, wk), Daniel Harris, Tom Cooper, Mark Cosgrove, Shahid Afridi, Kieron Pollard, Cameron Borgas, Daniel Christian, Aaron O'Brien, Mark Cleary, Shaun Tait, Gary Putland.
Western Australia squad Chris Gayle, Shaun Marsh, Wes Robinson, Luke Pomersbach, Adam Voges (capt), Mitchell Marsh, Luke Ronchi (wk), Theo Doropoulos, Ashley Noffke, Drew Porter, Aaron Heal, Brad Knowles, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Michael Hogan.
