Scorecard
A bold declaration behind by Tasmania's captain George Bailey has left the door open for an outright result against Western Australia in Hobart, after Alex Doolan and Bailey led a strong Tigers batting effort. Doolan's maiden first-class century guided Tasmania to 5 for 296, at which point Bailey declared with a 146-run deficit in a bid to give both teams a chance of victory.
The move handed Western Australia first-innings points and at the close of the third day they had extended their advantage to 267 runs. The Warriors had reached 2 for 121 with Adam Voges unbeaten on 59 and Shaun Marsh on 43, after Brett Geeves removed both openers cheaply.
Voges had been the leading wicket-taker for Western Australia with 3 for 38, including Doolan, who was caught and bowled for 135. Doolan had combined with Bailey (83) in a 177-run partnership that drove Tasmania to 2 for 279 and in a strong position to push on for first-innings points.
However, both teams are winless in their fifth match of the competition and need to put some victories on the board to have any hope of resurrecting their campaigns. Bailey's declaration has left Western Australia's captain Voges to make a decision on how many to set the Tigers on the final day, on a pitch that has provided big runs for both sides.
