The fast bowler Luke Feldman has rocketed into Queensland's Sheffield Shield side having been named to make his debut at the MCG starting on Friday. Feldman, 25, was plucked from outside the Bulls squad to make his first-class debut against the touring West Indians last week.

He finished with three wickets for the match and with Queensland's attack still weakened by injuries, a place was available against Victoria this week. It has been a rapid rise for Feldman, who works as a police officer and 12 months ago was playing first-grade cricket in Townsville.

Feldman has replaced Chris Swan, who has a groin complaint, in the 12-man squad. There was also a call-up for the batsman Nathan Reardon, who posted his maiden first-class century against the West Indies, to replace the injured Glen Batticciotto.

The tour match also provided opportunities for the opener Nick Kruger and the batsman Wade Townsend to register their first hundreds in first-class cricket, and they have retained their spots in the Sheffield Shield squad. Queensland and Victoria have one win each for the season, although Victoria have one game in hand.

Queensland squad Ryan Broad, Nick Kruger, Lee Carseldine, Wade Townsend, Nathan Reardon, Chris Simpson (capt), Chris Hartley (wk), Ben Cutting, Daniel Doran, Nathan Rimmington, Luke Feldman, Scott Walter.
