Theo Doropoulos upstaged his better-known Western Australia batting colleagues to drive the Warriors to a four-wicket win in Perth. Doropoulos made a career-best 92 and combined with Adam Voges for a 123-run partnership that put Western Australia on track to overhaul Tasmania's 222.

The Perth rain meant the target was revised down to 212 and although Doropoulos was run out from the first ball of the final over, David Bandy pounded Brendan Drew over long-on for six to seal the result with four balls to spare. It was an excellent outcome for the home team after they stumbled to 4 for 73 having lost Shaun Marsh, Luke Ronchi and Luke Pomersbach, all of whom have played for Australia.

But the steady recovery from Doropoulos and another ODI player, Voges, frustrated Tasmania. Voges fell for 56 but Doropoulos, who has emerged as a powerful striker early this season, continued the chase with his 75-ball innings.

The target could have been greater after Tasmania's top order made a strong start and reached 2 for 103 from 20 overs. The openers Michael Dighton and Tim Paine attacked from the outset having been sent in, but neither managed to capitalise on their starts and they fell for 39 and 38 respectively.

Daniel Marsh kept the innings on track with 51 but a lack of support and tight bowling from Aaron Heal and Ben Edmondson caused problems for the reigning champions. Rain also interrupted Tasmania's innings and the two umpires - former Test players Paul Reiffel and Paul Wilson, making his state debut - decided the Tigers would have only 45 overs.
