Profile

One of the clear standouts among a relatively small crop of young batsmen in Australian domestic ranks at present, Chris Davies is a talented middle order strokemaker for the Southern Redbacks. In the past, he has enjoyed brilliant success at junior level; by the age of 14, he was already playing first grade cricket and not long afterward he became an Australian under-19 representative. Australia's under-19 selectors actually included him in their squad even at an age when he was still qualified to represent the nation's under-17 line-up. At present, he is a tremendous prospect for the South Australian senior team - a side of which he has been a member on a consistent basis since 1997-98. Lightly framed, Davies is very watchable at the crease; he hits the ball with tremendous power to most parts of the wicket and times and places his strokes magnificently against all manner of bowlers. Quietly spoken and a player who has needed to battle the condition of cystic fibrosis to make it to the first-class arena, he appears to have a sufficient degree of natural ability and the right type of attitude to ensure that his future in the sport will be nothing short of exciting.
