Walter Cornock was an Australian who helped Leicestershire out for one season in 1948 with no commensurate success. It was his only season in first-class cricket. Recruited as an allrounder - a middle-order batsman and left-arm medium pacer - he made little impression with the ball but did make five fifties without going on to record a big score. He returned to Australia at the end of the summer. He made one peacetime Football League appearance - in Rochdale's home game v Hartlepool United on November 22, 1947. He was Rochdale's fourth goalie in twelve matches and they lost 0-2. Earlier, he'd made six wartime appearances for Oldham Athletic in 1940-41, and played for Hereford United before Rochdale.
