Pakistan will announce the captain for the Asia Cup on May 25, the PCB chairman Ijaz Butt said on Saturday. The ODI captaincy slot is yet to be filled after Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan were banned by the PCB for an indefinite period after their win-less tour of Australia. Shahid Afridi led the team in the ICC World Twenty20 in the West Indies, where they reached the semi-finals, but at the moment, his appointment as the ODI captain isn't guaranteed.
"We will announce the captain for the Asia Cup on May 25 after a meeting of the selection committee," Butt told IANS. "Until now we have not decided or discussed any names as yet for the captaincy."
Butt added that the captain will be picked based on the World Twenty20 tour report by the coach and manager. He said the selection committee will also finalise a list of 30 players for the Asia Cup and the forthcoming tour of England this summer.
The four-nation Asia Cup will be held in Sri Lanka from June 15-24.
